The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has shown interest in collaborating with the BRICS group’s nuclear platform, according to Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev. In a recent interview on Russian television, Likhachev stated, “We see an interest from the IAEA in our association, our platform. We need specific sites where we can test the IAEA’s standards and regulatory measures in practice, demonstrating how they function.”
This development comes as Russia emphasizes BRICS’s strategic focus on multidisciplinary cooperation. The Russian Foreign Ministry recently clarified that the BRICS bloc has no intention of transforming into a military alliance, countering recent speculations. Instead, BRICS aims to strengthen its role as a strategic partnership platform across three core areas: politics and security, economics and finance, and culture and humanitarian collaboration.
The potential involvement of the IAEA aligns with BRICS’s broader efforts to enhance cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, ensuring safety standards while also exploring new opportunities in global energy development.
