Moscow is set to host a significant meeting of the heads of BRICS academies of sciences on May 29-30, 2024. This event, held at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Kurchatov Institute National Research Centre, commemorates the 300th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The meeting’s theme is “Academic Partnership in the Interests of Peace, Mutual Development, and Prosperity.”

- Establishment of a Common Scientific and Educational Space: Participants will discuss creating a shared BRICS information, analytical, and publishing platform to enhance collaboration and regular information exchange among member countries.
- Joint Research Initiatives: The meeting will explore collaboration in megascience projects and the formation of international research teams comprising young scientists.
- Training Future Scientific Leaders: Leading scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences are eager to contribute to training the next generation of scientific leaders, highlighting the importance of mentorship.
Conference Details
A press conference on May 20 provided insights into the upcoming event, featuring prominent figures such as Vladislav Panchenko, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, and Alexander Blagov, Vice President of the Kurchatov Institute.
The conference will mainly occur at the Kurchatov Institute, where scientific discussions will take place. Additionally, heads of academies from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan have also been invited to participate. The Kurchatov Institute President, Mikhail Kovalchuk, will present a plenary report titled “From Fundamental Knowledge to Results, From the Atom to the Genome.”

The meeting will unfold over two days:
- Research Infrastructure Tour: On the first day, BRICS representatives will be introduced to the Kurchatov Institute’s research infrastructure, discussing its application for collaborative efforts.
- Thematic Sessions: The second day will feature two thematic sessions focusing on nature-like technologies and megascience research infrastructure projects, fostering in-depth discussions on future collaborations.
This meeting is an integral part of Russia’s BRICS Chairship, managed by the Roscongress Foundation, and aims to strengthen scientific ties and enhance collaboration among BRICS nations.
