The Russian Foreign Ministry has firmly stated that BRICS has no intentions of evolving into a military union, countering recent allegations made in a September article published by The Times. The ministry emphasized, “BRICS is not, has never been, and is not going to become a military union. It is not even an international organization or an integration structure, but a multinational union of equal members.”
In its statement, the ministry outlined that BRICS is built upon a multidisciplinary strategic partnership grounded in three core pillars: politics and security, economics and finance, and cultural and humanitarian ties.
The ministry further clarified that the relationships among BRICS nations are founded on principles of equality, mutual respect, openness, pragmatism, and solidarity, stating that the alliance does not seek to oppose any particular group or entity.
Highlighting its diplomatic aspirations, the ministry noted that BRICS aims to foster a just and multilateral world economic system while advocating for peaceful resolutions to international disputes in accordance with international law and respect for sovereignty.
The expansion of BRICS is viewed as a reflection of shifting dynamics in the global economy, enhancing the role of developing nations in international affairs. This expansion is also seen as a crucial element in the pursuit of greater equity and representation on the global stage, contributing to a more balanced international landscape.
